China and Africa: The Win-Win Strategic Partnership |

In the last two decades, relations between China and Africa have for developed exponentially. The two sides have strengthened ties at all levels. Both sides have benefited from this constantly growing relationship: China imports most of its energy needs from Africa while Africa benefits from China’s expertise and development experience. China is building infrastructure in Africa, including roads, dams, hospitals, and schools.
What factors account for such development in relations? Why is Africa so important for China? Why is China so important for Africa? What are the potential hurdles for the continued progression of China’s relations with Africa? These are some of the questions that the author will answer during this seminar presentation.
Dr. Yahia H. ZOUBIR(U.S.A)
Dr. Yahia H. Zoubir is Professor of International Relations and International Management, and Director of Research in Geopolitics at KEDGE Business School, Marseille, France. He is the coeditor of North African Politics: Continuity and Change (2015) and Building a New Silk Road: China and the Middle East in the 21st Century (2014). Dr. Zoubir hascoauthored, Global Security Watch: The Maghreb(2013) andis coeditor of North Africa: Politics, Region, and the Limits of Transformation (2008), the Editor and main contributor of North Africa in Transition-State, Society & Economic Transformation in the 1990s (1999). His publications appeared in major scholarly journals in the United States, Canada, Europe, China, and the Middle East. His recent scholarly articles include, “Algeria’s Roles in the OAU/African Union: From National Liberation Promoter to Leader in the Global War on Terrorism, in Mediterranean Politics” (2015), “China’s Economic Diplomacy towards the Arab Countries: Challenges Ahead?” (WithDegang SUN), in the Journal of Contemporary China (2015), and “China’s Response to the Revolts in the Arab World: A Case of Pragmatic Diplomacy,” (with Degang Sun), Mediterranean Politics (2014).
